The steps, and the four questions about key ownership and recovery to answer before you take any of them.
Answer these first
- Who owns key management? A named team, with a deputy.
- Where do keys live, and who can reach them?
- What is the rotation schedule, and who performs it?
- What happens if a key becomes unavailable? This is the question people skip.
Without those four answered, the configuration is the easy part of a problem you have not finished defining.
Set it up
- Confirm the add-on is active on your account.
- Prepare the key management arrangement on your side.
- Configure the connection in Admin Center.
- Verify access still works normally.
- Document the whole arrangement.
Verify normal working afterwards
Open tickets, run a report, check an integration. The point of a correct setup is that nothing changes for anybody using the system.
Document it properly
Where the keys are, who administers them, how rotation works, and what the recovery procedure is. This is the documentation an auditor asks for and the documentation your successor needs.
Test the recovery path
Before you rely on it. A recovery procedure that has never been rehearsed is a procedure nobody knows whether they can execute.
