Plan requirement

A closed ticket cannot be reopened, but an admin can be allowed to edit its tags, subject, priority and some custom fields. Nothing else moves.
Can I change a closed ticket?
Not as it comes. Closed means no comment, no status change, no reassignment and no way back to Solved, which keeps historical figures from being rewritten.
One setting softens that. In Admin Center, open Objects and rules > Tickets > Settings, expand Modify closed ticket and select Allow admins to modify specific fields on a closed ticket. After that an admin can edit the tags, the subject, the priority and custom fields of the checkbox, multi-select, drop-down and text types. Since September 2026, on Enterprise, that ability can also be given to a custom role. The account setting still gates it. Fields that stay locked appear dimmed, and the button is Resubmit.
Three limits worth knowing
Agent Workspace has to be on for the subject, priority and custom fields; without it the API is the only route. You edit one ticket at a time in the interface, and use Update Ticket or Update Many Tickets for a batch; the tags endpoints refuse closed tickets. The organisation only changes through an organisation merge.
What if I need to carry on with it?
Create a follow-up ticket. If the customer replies to a closed ticket, from any channel, Zendesk creates one for you. If the next step is yours, create one and reference the old number in the description so the trail stays readable.
If this keeps happening
That is a configuration question rather than a working one. An automation decides how long after Solved a ticket closes, and if your customers routinely come back after it, that period is wrong for you.
