Custom objects have to be switched on before they appear. One setting, and then the design work begins.
Turn them on
- Open Admin Center, then Objects and rules.
- Find custom objects and activate them.
- Save.
The custom objects area appears, empty. Nothing else changes and no existing configuration is affected.
Before you create your first object
Two questions worth answering on paper rather than in the interface.
- What owns this data? If another system does, plan the sync before you design the fields.
- What will read it? Agents, rules, reports, or all three. That decides which fields matter and how permissions should be set.
Limits
There are limits on how many objects and records you can have, varying by plan. Look at them before designing something that assumes millions of records, because the answer shapes whether Zendesk is the right home for this data at all.
Legacy custom objects
An older mechanism with the same name existed and has been retired. Anything you read referring to legacy custom objects, or to a data export tool for them, is about that older system and does not apply to what you are building now.
