Connecting another system so its content appears in help centre search, and the question to settle before you do.
Connect a source
- Open the search settings in Knowledge.
- Add an external knowledge connection.
- Choose the system and sign in to it.
- Scope what is included, by folder, space or site section.
- Let it index, then search for something you know is there.
Scope it narrowly
The step that determines whether this helps or hurts. Connecting a whole shared drive brings in drafts, old versions and somebody's holiday photos, and those now compete with your articles.
Point it at the folders that hold current, reviewed content, and nothing else.
The question to settle first
Would you be comfortable sending a customer, or a colleague, to that content as it stands? If the honest answer is no, connecting it puts it in front of them anyway.
A source worth connecting is one somebody maintains.
Permissions do not carry over
Content arrives under your help centre's visibility rules rather than its own. Anything internal must be scoped to a source only agents can reach, and that is worth verifying rather than assuming.
Watch what it displaces
Every external result competes with your own. If your articles start appearing below documentation from elsewhere, either narrow the source or improve the article.
