Comments can be switched off per article or across the help centre. Often the right call, and not an admission of defeat.
Turn them off
- Open the article, or the help centre settings for all of them.
- Disable comments.
- Save.
Existing comments stay visible unless you remove them.
When comments earn their place
- A community-minded audience who add genuinely useful detail.
- Technical documentation where readers report edge cases.
- An internal help centre, where colleagues add context.
When they do not
Most consumer-facing help centres. What arrives is spam, and support questions that should be tickets, and neither is served by a comment.
A question in a comment is worse for the customer than a ticket: it is public, it is not routed to anybody, and nothing measures how long it waits.
Per article
Useful where one article attracts trouble. An article about a contentious policy change can have comments off while the rest of the help centre keeps them.
Leave a route in
If you turn comments off, make sure the article makes it obvious how to reach you. Removing the comment box without offering the request form reads as not wanting to hear from people.
