Managing your generative search usage

Plan requirement

Generative answers are counted. All Suite and Guide plans include up to 100,000 eligible searches a month that produce a generative result, and the counter is not where people look for it: it sits under Account, not in the AI settings.

See where you stand

  1. In Admin Center, click Account in the sidebar.
  2. Select Usage, then Summary.
  3. Read the Generative search box: eligible queries performed this month, and how many remain.
  4. Compare it against the period before, and decide whether the volume matches the value.

If you expect to reach the limit, there is a Generative Search Extender add-on that buys additional searches.

Turning it off is a search setting

  1. In Knowledge admin, click the Settings icon in the sidebar.
  2. Select Search settings.
  3. Under Quick answers, clear Show quick answers for search queries and click Save.

It is on by default for all plans, so this is a decision to switch off rather than one to switch on.

Check it monthly, not annually

Usage follows traffic, and traffic follows things you do not control: a campaign, an outage, a season. With a hundred thousand a month you are unlikely to be surprised, but a monthly look catches a change while it is still small, and the Summary page shows the remainder rather than only the total.

Where it adds nothing

Generative answers help most where the question is broad and the answer lives across several articles. They add little where the reader wants one specific procedure, and nothing at all on a help centre with few articles.

Better articles cost less

Generated answers are assembled from what you have written. A well-structured article gets summarised accurately in one attempt; a vague one produces a vague answer, a follow-up question, and another search.
