Five ways a generated answer is confidently wrong, and the check that catches each one.
One: the wrong date
Created where you meant solved, or the reverse. Both are legitimate readings of an English sentence and they produce different numbers.
Check: open the report and read which date the filter uses.
Two: the wrong dataset
Anything about how something changed over time needs ticket updates rather than tickets. Asked from the wrong dataset, the question gets answered approximately.
Check: for status history, backlog or field changes, confirm it used the updates dataset.
Three: missing your conventions
Your team excludes spam, one brand and internal tickets from every figure. It does not know that, so its total is larger than the number everybody else quotes.
Check: compare the total against a report you trust for the same period.
Four: average where you meant median
On times this is not a detail. The average can be twice the median, and the generated report will pick one without saying why.
Check: look at the aggregator on any time metric.
Five: an empty field it filtered on
Filtering on a field completed on a fifth of tickets silently drops the rest. The chart looks precise and covers a minority.
Check: if the total dropped sharply, look at how many tickets have that field at all.
The one habit that covers all five
Read the generated report back as a sentence: metric, grouping, filters, period. If you cannot say it, do not quote it.
