Adding twenty people one by one is an afternoon. Importing them from a file is ten minutes, if the file is right.
Prepare the file
Export the template from WMS first and fill that in, rather than building a spreadsheet from scratch and hoping the columns line up.
Three things cause most failed imports:
- Duplicate extensions. Every extension must be unique. Check for repeats before you upload.
- Duplicate or missing email addresses. The email address is how someone signs in, so it has to be there and it has to be unique.
- Numbers without a country code. Store them in full international format.
Import
- In WMS, go to Users.
- Choose the import option and select your file.
- Review what the import will do before confirming.
Test with three rows before importing two hundred. A mistake in the template repeats itself across every row, and cleaning up afterwards takes longer than the import saved.
Licences are not assigned by the import
Imported users still need a subscription plan. Set the License type afterwards, and make sure you have enough free licences of the right type before you start. Importing forty users when you hold thirty licences leaves ten people unable to sign in.
Importing contacts
The same approach works for phonebook contacts. Full international format on every number, or incoming calls will not match the entry and you lose the name lookup.
