Multi Carrier Trunks connect your phone system to several carriers at once, so one carrier having a bad day does not take your calls down.
What a trunk is
A trunk is the connection between your phone system and the public telephone network. Without one you can call colleagues but not the outside world. It is the part most people never think about until it stops working.
Why more than one carrier
A single carrier is a single point of failure. Carriers have outages, routes to particular countries degrade, and quality to some destinations is better on one network than another.
With several carriers behind your trunk, calls can take a different path when one is having problems. You do not configure this and you do not need to notice it.
What this means day to day
- You do nothing. Routing is managed on our side. There is no failover switch for you to operate.
- Quality is monitored. Degradation on one route does not have to become your problem.
- Numbers stay yours. Your numbers are not tied to one carrier, which is what makes switching paths possible.
Where to look when something is wrong
Check status.pluscloud.nl first. Current status, planned maintenance and past incidents are all there. If calling problems line up with something on that page, you have your answer without opening a ticket.
What Multi Carrier Trunks do not cover
SMS, MMS and the WhatsApp integration run over CLASSOUND, not over your trunks. If you need messaging, that is a separate service.
