Set up a popup URL integration

A popup URL opens your own system at the right record when a call arrives. Often the fastest route to a useful integration.

How it works

You give Wildix a web address with the caller's number in it. When a call arrives, that page opens. Your system does the lookup and shows whatever it shows.

If your application already has a search page that accepts a phone number, you are most of the way there. No development, no API, no project.

Set it up

This is a per-person setting, not a company-wide one, and it can be set from either end.

  1. As the user, in x-bees or Collaboration 7: under Settings, click Calls, switch on Popup URL, enter the address and choose when it fires.
  2. As an administrator, in WMS: go to Users, select the person, click Preferences > Edit Preferences, then Settings, and find the Popup URL section.

Choosing the moment

  • Ringing (incoming) or Call generation (outgoing) opens the page while the phone is still ringing, so the record is up before you speak.
  • Answer waits until the call is picked up, which avoids a screenful of pages from calls nobody took.
  • On-Click gives you a link to open yourself. This one is only available when the user sets it in the app; it cannot be chosen from WMS.

None of the automatic triggers fire for internal calls between colleagues.

What you can put in the address

Anything in braces is replaced when the call happens: {CALLERNUM}, {CALLERNAME}, {USERNUM}, {USERNAME}, {CALLTYPE} for incoming or outgoing, and {TAGS} for call tags. Mix them with fixed text freely, so a URL can open a search, or pre-fill a new ticket with the caller's number and a subject line.

Fixing the number format

Numbers arrive in international format. If your database stores them locally, the lookup finds nothing and the page opens empty.

You can strip leading digits in the URL itself: {CALLERNUM:3} drops the first three, which is usually enough to turn an international number into the national one your system holds. Prefix a zero in front of it if your records expect one. That is often quicker than changing either your data or your phone system.

Test the URL in a browser first, with a real number pasted in. If it does not show the right record there, it will not from a call either, and you will have spent an hour blaming the phone system.

When a popup is the wrong tool

A popup URL needs somebody looking at a screen. If something should happen regardless of who is watching, use a callback URL instead. Those are set once for the whole PBX, and the PBX itself sends an HTTP request on a new call, an updated call such as a transfer, or a call ending. They carry more detail too, including a unique call identifier and the hangup cause, which is what you want for writing a call record rather than opening a page.
