Zendesk hosts your data in one of five regions, and on Suite Professional and above you can choose which one at no extra cost.
Where is my data stored? Can I choose the region? Does Zendesk offer EU data residency?
By default Zendesk places your account without a guarantee about the region. To pin it down you switch on the Data Center Location add-on and pick one of five:
Region
United States
European Economic Area (EEA)
United Kingdom (UK)
Japan (JP)
Australia (AU)
It is included at no extra charge from Suite Professional upwards, but it is not switched on by itself. Ask us to enable it and say which region you need.
It covers tickets, messaging, live chat, your help centre and community, voice, the contact centre, the platform, analytics, Zendesk WFM, Zendesk QA and AI agents. A handful of named features sit outside it, so check the ones you depend on before you state a region.
What about encryption, and how long the data is kept?
Neither of those changes with the region you pick. Everything is encrypted at rest with AES-256 and in transit over TLS on every plan; holding the key yourself is a separate add-on with its own restrictions. How long tickets, attachments and end users are kept is a retention setting on your account, which you choose regardless of where the data lives.
Compliance coverage is granted per product and per configuration, not per account. Two exclusions matter when you have to state a region. Service data handled by non-Zendesk services, Marketplace apps among them, sits outside the scope of the Data Center Location add-on. Beta and Early Access Program features sit outside the regional hosting policy altogether.
