A WhatsApp connection that has dropped is reconnected rather than rebuilt. Check three things before you start.
Before you reconnect
- Who has access. The Meta account used originally, or one with the same rights on the business account.
- Whether the number is still yours on the business account, and not claimed elsewhere.
- Whether the business account is in good standing. A policy issue there blocks reconnection until it is resolved.
Attempting a reconnection without these produces errors that describe symptoms rather than causes.
Reconnect
- Open the WhatsApp channel in Admin Center.
- Choose to reconnect.
- Sign in with the Meta account and reselect the business account and number.
- Grant the permissions.
- Send a test message and confirm it arrives.
Reassign the brand afterwards
A reconnection can reset the brand to the default. Check it before you consider the job done, because misrouted tickets are the quiet consequence.
Conversations during the outage
Messages sent while the connection was down do not arrive retrospectively. Customers who wrote during that period believe you ignored them, and it is worth a short apology on the channel rather than silence.
