Templates have a quality rating that can get them disabled. Watching it is the maintenance nobody expects.
Where they live
In the WhatsApp manager for your business account, with their status, category and quality rating.
Quality rating
WhatsApp scores each template on how recipients react. Blocking and reporting lower it. A template whose rating falls far enough is paused and then disabled, and you stop being able to send it.
This is the maintenance task nobody plans for, and the first sign is usually a message that will not send.
What lowers a rating
- Messages people did not expect. A reminder for something they did not sign up to.
- Too many. Three notifications about one order is two too many.
- Anything that reads as marketing in a service template.
- Sending to people who never opted in.
Editing a template
Changing the wording means submitting for approval again, and the old version stops being usable in the meantime. Plan wording changes rather than making them on a busy day.
Retire what you do not use
Unused templates still count towards your limits and still have to be understood by whoever inherits the account. Remove what has not been sent in six months.
