Updating articles in bulk

Changing a property across many articles at once: section, visibility, labels. Powerful, and there is no undo.

Update in bulk

  1. Open the article list and filter to what you want to change.
  2. Select the articles.
  3. Choose the bulk action.
  4. Apply.

What it can change

Properties rather than content: which section an article is in, who can see it, its labels, its state, who owns it.

It does not edit the text. For that, content blocks are the mechanism.

Where it saves an afternoon

  • Restructuring. Moving thirty articles into a new section.
  • A visibility change across a whole set.
  • Adding a label to everything about one product.
  • Reassigning when somebody leaves.

Check the filter twice

The whole risk is here. A filter slightly wider than you meant applies the change to articles you did not intend, and there is no undo.

Read the count before applying. If you expected thirty and it says ninety, stop.

Visibility is the dangerous one. A bulk change making articles public reaches search engines within a day. Do that change on a handful first and check the result before applying it broadly.
