Every button in the article editor toolbar, left to right, and what it does. Three of them carry a condition, and one shortcut prevents most trouble. The names below are the names you see in the editor.
The toolbar, left to right
| Button | What it does |
| Heading selector | Picks the HTML heading level for the selected text. |
| Formatting selector | Bold, underline, italic and block quote together in one menu. |
| Bold | Bold or unbold. |
| Underline | Underline or remove underline. |
| Italic | Italicize or remove italics. |
| Block quote | Sets text apart from the body text as its own styled paragraph. |
| Size selector | Makes the font larger or smaller. |
| Text color selector | The colour of the text itself. |
| Text background color selector | The colour behind the text. |
| Table | Creates a table, and changes one you already have. |
| Code block | A block of pre-formatted code with basic editing tools. |
| Code block type selector | The programming language for that block. |
| Bulleted list | Create or remove a bulleted list. |
| Numbered list | Create or remove a numbered list. |
| Align/indent selector | Alignment and indentation. |
| Insert/edit link | A link to a URL, to a heading inside the same article, or to another article. |
| Insert image | An image through the file browser. The limit is 20 MB per image. |
| Insert content block | Reusable text that you maintain in one place. |
| Enhance writing | Has AI improve the selected text. |
| Article components | The separate article components you can insert. |
| Embed | A video or an external interactive element. |
| Summary | A short summary in a shaded box at the top of the article. |
| HTML block | A block of your own HTML. |
| Horizontal line | A horizontal line to divide content. |
| Callout | A highlighted box. The types are Info, Warning, Error and Tip. |
| Accordion | A collapsed section that the reader expands on demand. |
| Tabs | Grouped content the reader switches between in one space. |
| Source code | View or edit the HTML source. |
Three buttons with a condition
The toolbar itself is on every plan. Three buttons carry something extra.

Keyboard shortcuts while you type
The editor also supports a dozen keyboard shortcuts. Ctrl+Shift+V is the one worth learning: text from Word or an email otherwise carries formatting you cannot see in the editor but that does show in the published article. The full list is in Keyboard shortcuts for the article editor.
