Ringing your mobile over the phone network instead of the app. Useful where data is poor, and rarely the first choice.
What it does
When a call comes in, the system places a second call to your mobile number over the ordinary phone network and connects the two. Your mobile rings as if someone dialled it directly.
No app, no data connection, no push notification. That is the whole point of it.
Turn it on
- Open the call features in your settings.
- Enable mobility and enter your mobile number.
- Set the timeout: how long the desk phone rings before the mobile joins in.
- Set it per call class if you only want it for some callers.
Try the app or an eSIM first
The mobile app is the better answer for most people. You keep your extension, transfers work, colleagues see your status, and the call stays inside the system.
An eSIM is the next option worth looking at, and it keeps more of that than cellular forwarding does.
Mobility earns its place where neither fits: patchy data, a phone that cannot run the app, or somebody who simply will not install one.
What you lose
- Transfers. You are on an ordinary mobile call, so the tools in the app are not there.
- Presence. Colleagues cannot see that you are on a call.
- Recording and reporting. What happens on that leg is outside the system.
Watch the timeout
Too short and every call rings your mobile before you can reach your desk phone. Too long and the caller has given up. Fifteen to twenty seconds suits most desks.
Your mobile voicemail will steal calls
If your mobile answers with its own voicemail before the system gives up, callers land there instead of your work voicemail, and nobody at the office sees the message. Set the mobile's own voicemail delay longer than the timeout, or turn it off.
This is the one that catches people, and it is silent: the caller thinks they left a message with you.
