Usage and quality live in your own Meta Business Manager rather than in Zendesk, and an unverified account carries limits that shape what you can plan.
Where to look
Zendesk is explicit about this: you host and own the WhatsApp Business Account through your Meta Business Manager, and that is where you monitor the display name, message usage and quality rating. Zendesk connects to it and hosts the number; it does not become the place you read those figures.
One case breaks that, and it is the case where somebody goes looking and finds nothing. A number connected before Zendesk offered the self-service flow sits on a business account Zendesk hosts, not yours, so the insights tool, the templates and the quality rating are not yours to open. Moving it to your own Meta Business Manager is what grants that access, and it is a migration rather than a setting.
So two systems, counting different things. Explore counts tickets and conversations, the business manager counts messages and templates. Both are right and they will not match, which is what confuses people who put them side by side. Use Zendesk for support performance and the business manager for channel health.
Open the figures
- Log into your Meta account and open your company portfolio.
- Select your WhatsApp Business account and click WhatsApp Manager.
- Read the display name, the message usage and the quality rating there.
The limits that bite before usage does
Skip Business Verification and the account runs with restricted access. Customer-initiated conversations stay unlimited, but you may notify only 250 unique customers in a rolling 24-hour period, you may register two phone numbers, and you cannot apply for an Official Business Account until verification is complete.
Those numbers decide whether a campaign is possible at all, so establish them before the campaign is designed rather than on the morning it goes out. Verification can be done at any time and lifts the restrictions.
The two figures worth a regular look
Template quality
A rating per template based on how recipients react, over a rolling window of the past 24 hours. Falling means people are blocking or reporting, and when it drops far enough the number's status changes to flagged or restricted. Catching a decline early means adjusting the wording or the audience; catching it late means the template stops working during a campaign.
Your monthly template volume
How many service and utility template messages you send in a month. Until now that was a usage figure; from 1 October 2026 it is a cost figure, because utility templates inside an open window get charged per message. Read it before that date so you know what you are walking into.
Your messaging limit
How many people you may message first in a period is capped, and the cap moves with your behaviour. A campaign planned against last month's limit can meet this month's.
Make it somebody's job
Neither system alerts you. A monthly glance by a named person is enough, and without it the first signal is a template that will not send. If the number was connected through us, ask and we will look at it with you.
