One subject per article: why that matters for AI

The rule that does most of the work. An article covering several questions is found for none of them and quoted well for none either.

Why long articles feel right

Writing one article about a feature is less work than writing four, and it keeps related things together. Both are true, and both are about the writer rather than the reader.

What it costs

  • Search matches vaguely. An article about five things is a weak match for each.
  • AI answers blend. Asked about one part, it summarises the whole.
  • Readers scroll. Somebody with one question reads past four answers to find theirs.
  • Maintenance is harder. One part goes out of date and the whole article is suspect.

How to split

Take each heading and ask whether somebody would search for it on its own. If yes, it is an article.

Then link them, and add a short overview article if the group needs an entry point.

The counter-argument, honestly

More articles is more to maintain, and a knowledge base of four hundred short articles has its own problems. The answer is not infinite splitting; it is that the unit should be the question a customer asks.

Some questions genuinely need a long answer. Those are fine. What is not fine is one article holding four separate questions because they concern the same feature.
