Your status tells colleagues whether to call you, and decides whether your phone rings at all. Here is what each one does.
The statuses
| Status | Colleagues see | Your phone |
|---|---|---|
| Available | You can be reached | Rings |
| Away | You are not at your desk | Rings |
| Do Not Disturb | Do not call | Does not ring |
| On a call | Set automatically | Depends on your settings |
Do Not Disturb actually stops calls. Away only tells colleagues something; DND changes what happens. If your phone has gone quiet, check this first.
Add a note
A status message next to your presence saves colleagues a round trip. "In a workshop until 15:00" answers the question before they ask it.
Open the advanced options and you can give the status an end time as well. When it passes, you go back to Available automatically, which is the difference between a note that stays accurate and one that lies about you for a fortnight.
Depending on your permissions, your status message can also be visible to people outside the company who reach you through a Kite link. Write it so you would not mind a customer reading it.
What happens to calls you miss
Depending on how your account is set up, a call you do not answer goes to voicemail, forwards elsewhere, or returns to the call group. Check your forwarding rules in Settings if you are not sure which.
Presence in a call group
If you are a member of a call group, your status affects whether the queue offers you calls. Being in Do Not Disturb takes you out of rotation, and depending on the setup, letting a call ring out can put you on pause automatically.
