Webinar Mode turns a meeting into a presentation: a few speakers, a large audience, and control over who can talk.

When to use it instead of a meeting

A normal video conference assumes everyone might speak. That works up to about a dozen people and falls apart beyond it: cameras everywhere, background noise, and no way to run an agenda.

Webinar Mode is for one-to-many. Presenters are visible and audible; the audience watches and asks questions in writing.

What changes

• Only presenters have camera and microphone by default
• The audience joins muted and stays that way unless invited to speak
• Questions come through text rather than interruptions
• Sixteen people can speak and show video at the same time; everybody else watches

Running one

1. Agree who presents and who handles the questions. One person doing both has to switch attention between the slides and the question list.
2. Join fifteen minutes early with that person.
3. Test screen sharing and audio between you before anybody else arrives. An audience of eighty watching you troubleshoot a microphone is a bad first three minutes.
4. Present, and let your co-host watch the question list.

Recording

Webinars are usually worth recording, both for people who could not attend and for reuse. Say at the start that you are recording.
