Speak and listen on the broadcast channel

Plan requirement

Subscription x-hoppers SalesFloorHopper or higher

Every x-hoppers headset shares one broadcast channel and starts muted. Push-to-talk for a quick message, handsfree when your hands are busy.

How the broadcast works

All headsets in the store sit on one channel. By default every headset is muted, so the channel is quiet until someone chooses to speak. When you do speak, everyone on the broadcast hears you, including managers and back-office staff who joined from the app rather than a headset.

This is why a question asked once reaches whoever can actually answer it, instead of being repeated across the floor.

Two ways to speak

Push-to-talk, for short messages

Press and hold the Push-to-talk button while you talk. You are unmuted only while the button is held. Release it and you go back to muted.

Use this for anything that takes a sentence or two, which is most of what happens on a shop floor.

Handsfree, when your hands are busy

Double-press the Mute button. You stay unmuted until you press Mute again or put the headset on the charger.

Because it is easy to forget you are live, the headset beeps after 30 seconds to remind you. An administrator can change that timeout.

Handsfree is for carrying a ladder or unpacking a pallet, not for a normal conversation. If you can press a button, use push-to-talk.

Mute the broadcast while you help a customer

When you are with a customer, chatter in your ear is a distraction. You can silence the incoming audio without leaving the broadcast.

  1. Double-press the Push-to-talk button. Incoming audio mutes for 60 seconds by default.
  2. To come back early, double-press Push-to-talk again.

This mutes what you hear. It does not remove you from the channel, and colleagues can still reach you.

Volume

Use the Volume Up and Volume Down keys. Which key is which depends on the ear you wear the headset on:

  • Left ear: the upper key is volume up.
  • Right ear: the lower key is volume up.

Talking to one person

You cannot. The broadcast is shared by design, and everyone on the channel hears everyone. For a one-to-one conversation, place a call instead.

Accepting a request

Two kinds of notification arrive on the broadcast and both are accepted the same way.

  • A customer request from a smart call point, for example someone scanning a QR code in an aisle.
  • A broadcast message that was sent with confirmation required.

Double-press the Push-to-talk button to accept. For a customer request, the system then announces to everyone on the broadcast that you are handling it, so two people do not walk to the same aisle.
