Use Outlook with Wildix on Windows

Plan requirement

Subscription UC-Business or higher

Click a phone number in Outlook to call it over Wildix, so you stop copying numbers between windows all day. Windows only.

What it does

Ties Outlook on Windows to your phone in four ways: numbers become clickable, your presence follows your calendar, an incoming call is looked up against your Outlook contacts before it reaches you, and you can search those contacts from Collaboration.

The click-to-call is the part people notice first. The caller lookup is the part they miss when it is gone, because it turns an unknown number into a name.

Legacy Collaboration, and Windows only

Two conditions decide whether this is for you at all. It runs on Legacy Collaboration, not on Collaboration 7: in Collaboration 7 the Outlook connection is a calendar one, handled by the Microsoft 365 integration, and the clickable numbers and contact lookup described here are not part of it. And it is Outlook on Windows; on macOS and in Outlook on the web, use the Chrome extension instead, which does the same thing on any web page.

It also needs Office 2016 or higher, and Office on the web is not supported.

Install it

  1. In Legacy Collaboration, open Settings and go to Extensions, then install the Integration service. Outlook support is part of it; there is no separate download.
  2. Right-click the Wildix Integration Service icon in the quick launch toolbar and open Settings.
  3. Switch on Enable Outlook Integration.
  4. In Outlook's calendar, open the integration's settings to choose which calendars sync with Legacy Collaboration.

Two things to arrange before you roll this out. Activation needs local administrator rights, so somebody who manages the computers has to do it. And it switches on for every user of that Windows PC, not just the person who enabled it, which matters on a shared machine at a counter or in a warehouse.

For a whole team, deploy it centrally rather than asking each person to install it. Doing it desk by desk means half the team never gets round to it.

Calendar is separate

Two different things read your calendar and it is worth keeping them apart. This integration reads the calendar on your own computer and turns a meeting into a presence status, so colleagues see you are busy.

The availability the meeting scheduler offers to other people comes from the Microsoft 365 integration instead, which is set up centrally and works whether or not anything is installed on your computer.

If numbers are not clickable

  • Outlook was not restarted after installing
  • The number is stored in a format the integration cannot recognise
  • Another application has claimed the call handler on that computer
