An article can go live at a chosen moment, and come down at another. Useful for launches and for things that expire.
Schedule it
- Write the article and leave it unpublished.
- Set a publish date and time.
- Optionally set an unpublish date.
- Save.
Where publishing on a schedule helps
- A product launch, where documentation should appear the moment it is announced and not before.
- A price or policy change taking effect on a date.
- Anything embargoed.
The alternative is somebody remembering to click publish at eight in the morning, which works until the day it does not.
Where unpublishing helps
- A seasonal notice that should disappear afterwards.
- A temporary workaround for a known problem, removed when it is fixed.
- An offer with an end date.
An article about a workaround that outlives the problem is worse than none, and unscheduling it is a decision you can make while you still remember.
Check the time zone
Scheduling uses a time zone, and getting it wrong publishes something hours early or late. For an embargo that is the difference between working and not.
