The SDK previews show the test conversation in an app on an iPhone or a Pixel, the way the Zendesk messaging SDKs for iOS and Android present it.
Open an SDK preview
In the toolbar, open Preview channel and choose Zendesk SDK · iOS or Zendesk SDK · Android under Zendesk messaging. iOS appears on an iPhone, Android on a Pixel. The test conversation carries on in the app. How the menu works is in Choosing the channel to preview.
What is the same as the Web Widget
The SDKs share the design system of the Web Widget, so the conversation looks familiar: the same bubbles, rich text, images, buttons, carousels and forms. The colours come from the Web Widget settings in Admin Center. Like on the Web Widget, the welcome reply appears when the conversation starts, because the SDKs are messaging channels of Zendesk itself.
What is different
- A native header with a back arrow, the title and the description, in the style of iOS or Android.
- Larger text and quick replies aligned to the left, as in the apps.
- No customisation. The options in the Web Widget customisation and the embed code apply to the Web Widget only.
- Sources open in the browser. A generative reply has a Sources button, but Help Center articles do not open in an article viewer inside the app.
- An image with text shows its text as a separate bubble under the image. The inspector notes this per message.
- Buttons on Android. When a text message has more than one link or postback button, the inspector notes that the Android SDK documents one button per text message and three per image message.
The notes are under On followed by the channel name, on the Message tab of the inspector. See Using the inspector.
Keyboard
On-screen keyboard in the preview settings shows how much of the screen the keyboard covers: Never, When the message field has focus or Always. The iPhone shows the iOS keyboard, the Pixel shows Gboard, and the keys type into the message field. The SDK previews have no dark mode setting.
Limits
The SDKs receive messages through Sunshine Conversations, so the same limits apply as on the Web Widget, such as 4,096 characters per message and at most 10 cards in a carousel. A message above those limits is marked as not delivered. See Channel limits the preview checks.
