The preview settings

Plan requirement

App pluscloud AI Agent Preview
Subscription Suite Team or higher, Support Team or higher
Access Client admin, Client editor, Client user

Preview settings control the widget language, rich text, test tools, the channel limit check and the look of each channel preview. This is what each does.

Open the settings

Click Preview settings in the toolbar next to the preview. The panel only shows the options that apply to the channel you are previewing, so the list for the Web Widget differs from the one for WhatsApp or Gmail.

Most settings have a small i after their name. Hover over it, or move to it with the Tab key, to see a short animation of what the setting changes. If your computer is set to reduce motion, you see a still image. See Seeing what a setting does.

The Preview settings panel next to the Web Widget preview. Under General are Widget language set to Automatic, and switches for Rich messaging, Streaming text animation, Test tools on hover and Simulate channel limits. Under Appearance are Style with Account default selected, Conversations set to Automatic (One conversation), and Show launcher button.

General

Setting What it does
Widget language The language of the widget's own texts. Automatic takes the language of the test conversation, or of your browser. You can also pick any language the Zendesk messenger supports; the AI agent's languages are at the top with a star.
Rich messaging (markdown) Follows the AI agent's Activate rich messaging setting until you change it here.
Streaming text animation Web Widget only. Shows AI agent replies word by word.
Test tools on hover The locate, intents and inspect buttons next to messages. See Testing tools in the preview.
Simulate channel limits Marks messages the channel would reject. Not shown for email. See Messages marked as not delivered.
Simulate channel limits: a WhatsApp reply button that is too long, with and without the check.

Channel behavior

Shown for the SDK, messaging app, email and Slack previews.

Setting What it does
Show welcome reply messages Shows the welcome reply on channels where the customer writes first. Off, it is hidden behind a short note. Not shown for the Zendesk SDKs, which do send the welcome reply.
On-screen keyboard SDKs and messaging apps: Never, When the message field has focus or Always.

Appearance

Setting What it does
Sender address Email only. The address the AI agent's mails come from in the preview. See Previewing an email AI agent in Gmail or Outlook.
Window style Email and Slack: Automatic follows your operating system, or pick macOS, Windows or Linux.
Dark mode Messaging apps, email and Slack. Not for the Web Widget and the SDKs.
Style Web Widget: Account default, Default (bubbles) or Minimalistic. Default and Minimalistic go into the embed code as stylingPreset; the same choice is in the Web Widget customisation.
Conversations Web Widget: Automatic follows the multi-conversation settings of your Web Widget and says in brackets what they come down to, for example Automatic (One conversation). Or pick One conversation or Several conversations. With several, the widget opens a conversation list with your earlier test conversations, read-only. See What the Web Widget preview shows.
Show launcher button Web Widget: shows the launcher under the widget.
Customers can end conversations Web Widget: the Admin Center setting that adds the End conversation option to the widget. Until you change it, it follows your Web Widget, and the line under it says whether that is on now. Where the option appears follows the customisation. Confirming it in the preview ends nothing.
Open Help Center articles inside the widget Web Widget. On: Help Center articles open in the article viewer only where your widget would open them there: the account has the article viewer, the link points to the account's own Help Center address, and the article is public. Off: always in a new tab. See Sources and the article viewer.
Colors for this account Web Widget: primary, message and action colour from Admin Center, to try in the preview. The line above them says where the colours come from now. Reset to account theme removes your colours. They are not part of the embed code; to change colours on your website, use Theme colors in the Web Widget customisation.
Web Widget customization Every messenger customisation option. See Web Widget customisation options.
Conversations: one conversation, and several conversations with the conversation list.
Customers can end conversations: the End conversation button in the header, switched on and off.

All settings

All settings at the bottom of the panel opens the extension's options page. It holds the defaults for new previews:

  • Open test widgets in preview mode automatically, the same switch as Preview mode in the extension's window.
  • Default preview, Widget language, Style, Conversations, Rich messaging (markdown), Streaming text animation, Test tools on hover, Show launcher button and Dark mode.
  • Accounts: colour and style overrides per Zendesk account, and a Web Widget key or Zendesk host to read the widget design from. Leave them empty to use the account's own Web Widget settings. When this helps is in The preview does not look like your Web Widget.
  • Activation and privacy: when you activated the extension and which version of the terms of use and privacy policy you accepted, the box Newsletter to with each email address, and Deactivate. See What pluscloud receives from AI Agent Preview.
  • Saved test conversations: how many test conversations the extension keeps for the Web Widget's conversation list, with Delete to remove them.

All settings are kept in Chrome on this computer. What else the extension stores is in What the extension can access and store.
