Lesson 1 of 11 · Introduction. This course shows how to plan, present and debug your own AI agent with AI Agent Preview, from the first test to daily use.

The scenario

You are responsible for an AI agent in Zendesk. You build it, you decide when it goes live, or you show it to your team, stakeholders or a customer. Before go-live, you want to know how its replies look on each channel. Once it is live, you want to find out quickly why it gave an odd answer.

Goal: know what the course covers and have the extension ready to use with your own AI agent.

You do every lesson with your own AI agent and, where a lesson needs one, your own website. The screenshots and animations show a fictional shop, so none of them contains real customer data.

What you will be able to do

The course has 11 lessons in three phases: Planning (lessons 2 to 4), Presenting (lessons 5 and 6) and Debugging (lessons 7 to 10).

Phase Lessons You learn to
Planning 2 to 4 check replies against the limits of the channels you will use, make the preview match your own Web Widget design and brand, and turn your acceptance criteria into test sets
Presenting 5 and 6 demo your AI agent on your own website and switch channels during the demo, show the widget on your live site, and hand the embed code to your web developer
Debugging 7 to 10 trace an odd answer back to its source, find out why the widget on your website misbehaves, measure slow or failing replies, and re-run your test sets after a change

Lesson 11 sums up what you can do and where to read more.

What you need

  • Google Chrome 111 or later, with pluscloud AI Agent Preview installed and activated.
  • An AI agents role that lets you open your AI agent: Client admin, Client editor or Client user. See Who can use AI Agent Preview.
  • The Admin role for Support is recommended. With it, the preview uses your Web Widget design from Admin Center and the channels connected to your account.
  • For lessons 3, 6, 8 and 9: a website with your Zendesk messaging Web Widget, such as your live site or a test page. Chrome asks permission for each site you inspect.
  • For lesson 9: Chrome DevTools, which comes with Chrome.

Steps

  1. Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store. The steps, and the permissions Chrome asks for, are in Getting started with AI Agent Preview.
  2. In the AI agents dashboard, open your AI agent and click Test AI agent.
  3. In the test widget, open the three-dots menu and choose Show as Web Widget. The first time, the window Activate AI Agent Preview opens; accept the terms of use and click Activate. The terms are in Terms of use for AI Agent Preview.
  4. The preview appears where the test widget was, with a toolbar next to it. Hover over a button to see its name. You use most of them in this course. The test tools among them are in Testing tools in the preview.

In the example, the Web Widget preview of the fictional shop Bluebird Bikes, with the extension toolbar to its left. The tooltip of the top channel button reads Preview channel: Zendesk Web Widget. Below it are the buttons for restart, session parameters, conversation logs, copy link to conversation log, inspector, settings, presentation mode, back to test widget, close test and hide tools.

Why it matters

  • Everything you type or click in the preview still goes through the real test widget. You test your AI agent itself; the extension changes how the test looks in your own browser.
  • Each lesson starts from a situation you can meet with your own AI agent, and has the same parts: the scenario, the goal, what you need, the steps and why it matters. At the end of a lesson, mark it as done to go on to the next one.
  • The plan and access requirements at the top of this lesson apply to the whole course. From lesson 2 on, each lesson opens with a line that names its place, its phase and what it builds on, and lists only what it needs on top.
  • Take the lessons in order. Lesson 3 copies your website's widget design into the preview, and lesson 4 writes the test sets that lesson 10 runs again.
What the extension reads and what it sends to pluscloud

The preview reads the test conversation, your widget settings and the conversation logs through your own Zendesk session. Your test conversations stay in your browser. After activation, pluscloud sees who uses the extension and on which Zendesk plan. The details are in What the extension can access and store and What pluscloud receives from AI Agent Preview.
