Presenting: demo your AI agent on your own website

Lesson 5 of 11 · Presenting. You demo your AI agent on your own website and switch channels live, with the test sets from lesson 4 passing.

The scenario

Your team, your stakeholders or a customer want to see the AI agent before it goes live. You want to show it where customers will meet it: on your website first, then on WhatsApp. Someone may also ask how a reply by email looks.

Goal: a demo that looks like the real thing, on your website and on the channels you plan to use.

What you need

  • The address of your website, or a screenshot of it under 8 MB.
  • For the email part: your email AI agent, if you have one.

Steps

  1. Prepare the test. Click Restart conversation, so the demo starts at the welcome reply, and choose the Web Widget in Preview channel.
  2. Click Presentation mode in the toolbar. Under Background, choose Website and enter the address of a page of your site in Website address, for example your home page. Presentation mode is described in Demonstrating an AI agent in presentation mode.

In the example, the Presentation mode panel next to the preview, with the website of the fictional shop Bluebird Bikes as background: https://www.bluebirdbikes.example. The switch to hide the website's own chat widgets is on, followed by the field for extra CSS selectors and the buttons Full screen and Start presentation.

  3. Leave Hide the website's own chat widgets on; it is on by default. If your site already has a Web Widget or another common chat widget, the audience would otherwise see two.
  4. Choose what the audience sees. Hide test tools while presenting, on by default, removes the buttons next to messages. Show a "preview" warning bar adds a bar saying the AI agent is not live yet; you can change it under Warning text.
  5. Click Full screen. The first time, the preview asks permission to show the site: click Allow and confirm in Chrome. The Web Widget sits on your page where it would on the live site. Type the questions; your AI agent answers as in any test. The website background is described in Showing your website or an image behind the preview.

In the example, a presentation on the website of the fictional shop Bluebird Bikes. An orange bar at the top says the AI agent is not live yet and that conversations are for demonstration only. The Web Widget with a test conversation is open on the right, and Powered by pluscloud, Zendesk Premier Partner is shown at the bottom left.

  6. To switch to WhatsApp, press Esc, choose WhatsApp in Preview channel, open Presentation mode and click Full screen again. The conversation carries on, now on a phone in the middle of the screen. The panel keeps your choices.
  7. For email, open a test of your email AI agent. With the channel on Automatic, it opens in Gmail; present it the same way. Under Sender address in the preview settings, you choose who the replies come from. See Previewing an email AI agent in Gmail or Outlook.
  8. Does your site refuse to load in the preview? Choose Image as the background instead, and use Upload image with a screenshot of the page.

Why it matters

  • Your audience sees the conversation where your customers will see it, without the dashboard around it.
  • During the presentation the toolbar is hidden. That is why you leave it with Esc to change the channel.
  • If a message shows a not-delivered note, the audience sees it too. Check your flows first, as in lesson 2.
  • Slack is in the channel menu as well. Zendesk documents AI agents in Slack direct messages only as legacy functionality that stops on 10 December 2026; see Previewing Slack direct messages.
What the website background loads

The site loads inside the preview, in your browser only, with your permission for that domain. The permission covers the whole domain, such as *.example.com, because many sites redirect to www. Some sites do not allow being shown in a frame; then the image background is the way. An uploaded image stays in this browser. The line Powered by pluscloud · Zendesk Premier Partner is always shown at the bottom of the screen.
