Message colleagues without picking up the phone, share files in the conversation, and see who is available before you interrupt them.
Start a chat
Find the colleague in your list or search for their name, and start typing. Their presence shows next to them, so you know whether they are on a call before you ask something urgent.
Share a file
Drag a file into the conversation. It stays with the chat, which means the context travels with it: the question, the answer, and the document all in one place instead of scattered across email.
From chat to call
Some things are faster spoken. Start a call directly from the conversation rather than switching to the dialpad and looking the person up again.
Chat is for colleagues on your own phone system. To have a conversation with a customer or supplier that includes them, you need x-bees rather than Collaboration 7.
Presence changes what you should do
Someone in Do Not Disturb will not be interrupted by a call, but a chat message still arrives and waits for them. That makes chat the right choice when your question is not urgent enough to break someone's concentration.
History
Conversations stay available, so you can look back at what was agreed. Searching your own chat history is often faster than searching email for the same detail.
