Allowing admins to manage the subscription

Plan requirement

Subscription Any plan
Access Admin

Letting admins change the plan, or making them ask. A small setting with a real effect on how fast things happen.

Set it

  1. Sign in as the account owner.
  2. Open the subscription settings in Admin Center.
  3. Choose whether admins may manage the subscription, or only request changes.
  4. Tell your admins which it is.

The two positions

Admins may change it. Faster: somebody who needs a seat on Monday can add one on Monday.

Admins may request it. Controlled: every change passes the owner, who sees the cost.

Which to choose

Requests suit organisations where the owner carries the budget and wants to see each change. Direct management suits small teams where the owner and the admin are effectively the same function.

The wrong combination is requests plus an owner who is not paying attention. Then changes wait, people work around it, and somebody ends up sharing an account.

Tell people the route

An admin who cannot add a seat and does not know how to ask will find another way. Say who approves and roughly how long it takes.

Review after a change of owner

The setting stays; the person behind it changes. A new owner should know that requests come to them and what they are expected to do with them.
