Connect a MonoLED or DuoLED headset to your computer, and get the busy light working so colleagues can see you are on a call.
Which one you have
- MonoLED. One ear, wired by USB.
- DuoLED. Two ears, wired by USB. Better in a noisy office.
- MonoLED and DuoLED Bluetooth. The same, cordless, with a base station.
Connect a wired headset
- Plug the USB connector into your computer.
- In Collaboration 7 or x-bees, open Settings and select the headset as your audio device.
Selecting it in settings is the step people skip. Your browser will happily keep using the laptop microphone while you talk into a headset.
Connect a Bluetooth headset
- Plug in the base station.
- Put the headset in its base to pair.
- Select it as your audio device in settings.
It can also pair to a phone, which is useful when you move between desk and mobile.
The busy light
The LED turns red while you are on a call, so colleagues can see from across the office that you are talking. In an open-plan space this is the feature people miss most when it stops working, and it usually stops because the headset was not selected as the audio device.
Sidetone lets you hear your own voice slightly in the headset, which stops people shouting without realising. On Windows it can be enabled, and it is worth doing for anyone on the phone all day.
If it is not working
- No audio. Check the audio device in settings, then the browser's microphone permission.
- Light stays off. The headset is connected but not selected as the audio device.
- Bluetooth will not pair. Return it to the base and try again.
