Sidetone feeds a little of your own voice back into the headset. You switch it on in the Windows sound settings rather than anywhere in Wildix, and it takes about a minute.
Turn it on
- Open the Start menu and go to Control Panel.
- Select Sound. Where exactly it sits depends on how your Control Panel is displayed.
- Go to the Recording tab.
- Select your MonoLED or DuoLED headset and click Properties.
- Tick Listen to this device.
- Click Apply and then OK.
Turn it off again
Same route, then clear the Listen to this device checkbox and confirm with Apply and OK.
Why it is worth doing
With both ears covered you lose the feedback that tells you how loud you are, and people compensate by talking louder. That is tiring for them and distracting for everyone nearby. In an open-plan office it is one of the cheapest improvements you can make for people who are on the phone all day, and it is worth rolling out to a whole team rather than to one person: if everyone in a room speaks a little more quietly, the room gets quieter.
One thing to know
This lives in Windows and applies to the device you selected on that computer. It does not travel with the person, so somebody who moves to another desk or another laptop sets it again there.
