No devices or Web in Collaboration

An empty Devices menu means nothing is registered to call with: no Web Phone, no desk phone, and no mobile app currently open.

Why is my Devices menu empty?

The Devices menu in the top bar shows what you can currently place a call on: desk phones, the native apps, and Web for calling in the browser.

Web appears only once the Web Phone connection is up. If the Web Phone is off, so is that option.

The usual reasons it is empty

  • You only call from your mobile. The mobile app shows up as a device only while it is open. Closed app, no entry.
  • The computer has no microphone. A device with no headset connected and no built-in microphone cannot place a call, so it does not offer to.
  • The browser is blocking the microphone. The commoner version of the one above: the hardware is there but the browser has not been given permission. Collaboration shows a notice about it on the Calls tab under Settings, which is the tab worth opening before you go looking for a headset.
  • The Web Phone is switched off in your personal settings.

What to do

  1. Open Settings and look at the Calls tab for a notice about microphone access. If it is there, the fix is in your browser's own settings, not in Collaboration.
  2. Otherwise connect a headset, or use a computer that has a microphone.
  3. Open Settings and check the Web Phone is enabled.
  4. Reload Collaboration and look at the Devices menu again.
