Moving content is easy and it changes addresses. Old links keep working, but not everything follows.
Move an article
- Open the article, or select several in the list.
- Change the section.
- Save.
The article keeps its ID, so existing links still resolve.
Moving a section
Takes its articles with it. Useful for restructuring, and worth doing in one go rather than article by article.
What follows and what does not
- Links follow, because the ID is unchanged.
- Visibility does not automatically change, which is the one to watch. An article moved into a public section keeps its own restriction, and one moved into a restricted section stays public if it was.
- Search engines relearn the new address over time.
Check visibility after a restructure
The article's own setting wins over the section's. So a public article sitting in an internal section is public, and it looks internal in the list. That is the mistake worth checking for after any large move.
Restructure rarely
Readers build habits, colleagues remember where things live, and search rankings take time to settle. Moving things because a new structure looks tidier costs more than it returns.
Do it when the current structure genuinely fails people, and then do it once and properly.
