Placing the base station, then registering handsets and headsets to it. The order matters more than anything else.
Power it properly
The base takes power over the network cable, either from a switch that supplies it or from a 48V injector on the cable. It cannot be powered from a plug adapter, and there is no socket for one.
That surprises people who have unboxed it expecting a power supply.
Where to put it
Central to where the handsets will be used, and about two metres up. High and in the middle beats tucked behind a cupboard at desk height, because DECT range is about line of sight rather than distance on paper.
Concrete walls, lift shafts and metal shelving all take a bite out of coverage. If half the building is fine and one corridor is not, that is what you are looking at.
Register a handset
- Charge the battery fully first. That is about ten hours on a new handset, and a partly charged one behaves oddly during registration.
- Press the round centre key to open the menu.
- Choose Connectivity, then Register.
- Follow the prompts to attach it to the base.
Register a headset
Hold the Call, Volume up and Volume down buttons together for five seconds. The light blinks blue quickly while it connects, and settles into a slow blue blink once it is registered.
A light that stays off or blinks red slowly means it is not registered yet, which is also what a brand new headset does.
Registered is not the same as signed in
Registering attaches the device to the base. It does not yet belong to a person, so it will not ring for anyone until it is linked to an account.
That is the step people miss when a newly registered handset stays silent.
