Usually not. Once released, a subdomain can be taken by anybody, which is worth knowing before you change it.
What happens when you change it
The old name is released and becomes available to other accounts. If somebody else has taken it, it is theirs, and there is no mechanism to reclaim it.
If nobody has taken it
Ask pluscloud support quickly. The sooner after the change, the better the chance, and there is no guarantee.
Why people want it back
Because the change broke more than expected: an integration nobody updated, a forwarding rule, a link in a product email that still points at the old address.
Those problems have their own fixes. Reverting the subdomain is rarely the shortest route to solving them.
Fix the actual breakage instead
- List everywhere the old address appears.
- Update integrations, forwarding rules and webhooks.
- Update links in emails, documentation and your website.
- Tell agents to refresh their bookmarks.
That list is what the change needed in the first place, and it is the work either way.
Before changing a subdomain
Compile that list first, and be sure the change is necessary. Host mapping puts the help centre on your own domain without touching the subdomain at all, and that is often what people actually wanted.
