How do I cancel a Marketplace app subscription

Plan requirement

Subscription Any plan
Access Admin

Uninstalling is not always cancelling. Two separate actions, and missing the second keeps the charge running.

Do both

  1. Open the apps in Admin Center.
  2. Uninstall the app.
  3. Check the app's own subscription and cancel it.
  4. Verify on your next invoice that the charge has stopped.

Why the second step exists

Paid apps are sold by their developers. Removing the app from your account does not necessarily end the agreement with them, and the charge can continue against an app nobody has.

This is the most common cause of a line on an invoice that nobody recognises.

Apps billed outside Zendesk

Some are paid directly to the developer. Then nothing in your Zendesk account will stop it, and it has to be cancelled with them.

Check where the charge appears before assuming it is handled.

What uninstalling removes

The app and its interface. Data it wrote into tickets, such as fields or tags, generally stays, which is usually what you want.

Check what depended on it

Triggers, views or macros referring to the app's fields will still refer to them after it is gone. Look before uninstalling rather than debugging afterwards.

Review your apps annually

Most accounts carry one or two installed for a trial and never removed. Each is a third party with access to your data, and reviewing them is a security task as much as a cost one.
